Astigmatism

Astigmatism is a common refractive error that causes distorted and blurred vision. It occurs because of an irregular curvature of the cornea, the transparent part at the front of the eye. A healthy cornea has a spherical shape, whereas a cornea with astigmatism has a more oval shape. As a result, light rays entering the eye do not focus at a single point on the retina, leading to unclear vision.
