Eye Condition

Amblyopia

Amblyopia, also known as lazy eye, is a condition in which vision in one or both eyes does not develop properly during childhood. This occurs when there is insufficient visual stimulation during the critical period of visual development, usually before the age of 10. Amblyopia is the most common cause of vision loss in children and young people, affecting around 3–4% of this age group.

Amblyopia often has no noticeable symptoms, as children may not recognize the difference between good and poor vision. When only one eye is affected, the child compensates with the healthy eye. Parents and teachers can watch for the following signs.
